plan.com’s headquarters, located at No.5 Victoria Street, has been awarded the prestigious BIID Interior of the Year for 2024
This week, the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) named plan.com’s headquarters, “No.5” on Victoria Street in Douglas, as the winner of its top honour, recognising the office's outstanding design and innovation.
The technology-led business communications provider was named as the winner of the regional Interior of the Year Award, before going on to be named the national winner of the award, beating out competition from across the UK.
The building, which was finalised and occupied in May 2023, was the concept of plan.com CEO Dan Craddock, who wanted a working environment that reflected the company’s values of ‘Trust’, ‘Passion’ and ‘Excellence’, as well as promoting collaboration and innovation. He partnered with James Brookman Design, an Isle of Man property design service, to bring the vision to life and create a working environment that people would be proud of and enjoyed.

Here’s what the judges had to say:
“James Brookman Design's proposal for plan.com aimed to create a sophisticated, flexible workspace reflecting the company's professional services and youthful culture. Prioritising connection and well-being, the design focused on physical, visual, and functional connectivity, incorporating a living wall and biophilic elements. “Innovative features included suspended structural floor plates for optimal daylight and acoustic solutions. A neutral palette with signature colour accents provided visual impact, while flexible layouts catered to various working options. “Client satisfaction was paramount, with craftsmanship, sustainability, and attention to detail evident throughout. The result is a coveted workspace promoting productivity, wellness, and collaboration, aligned with plan.com's ethos.”

Empowering collaboration.
The judges praised the openness of the layout, which encourages the sharing of thoughts and ideas. The amphitheatre-style seating on the ground floor allows group discussions, while also providing a relaxing space to take a coffee break or eat lunch.
The building features a choice of comfortable breakout seating areas on every floor to encourage people to get away from their desks, whether that is focused work, impromptu discussions, private video calls, or formal meetings. Integrated screens, microphones and cameras mean that collaboration can happen virtually as well.

Cool, calm and collected.
The building is consciously designed to nurture a sense of ‘home away from home’ with a concept that focuses on productivity, wellbeing, flexibility, and engagement.
High ceilings, natural wood features and floor-to-ceiling glass with views across Douglas Bay give a relaxed feel and have been designed to promote a stress free and calming headspace throughout. The natural theme continues throughout the office and can be seen with its organic design elements, such as the ‘living wall’, which spans more than four storeys.
Lee Vowles, Head of Infrastructure at plan.com, reflected on the achievement and thanked its Isle of Man contributors:

“The awards are the icing on the cake for an incredible 18 months for me and my talented team, made possible thanks to the dedication and buy-in from the local tradesmen, whose skills and expertise were essential to the project’s successful delivery. plan.com strives for excellence in everything we do, so a lot of planning was needed to ensure we met all the needs of our people, while staying true to Dan’s vision of a workplace that is both natural and modern. Watching the building come to life over the past year and a half has been an incredible experience. It's deeply satisfying to know that it’s helping the business, and its employees reach their full potential.”
